Urban Expansion
A growing family committed to city living decided to add a two-story addition to their home in order to create a functional living room, larger kitchen, and a master suite. The space ties into the original without giving away its presence. It is not visible from the street or the first floor rooms. The windows and doors are trimmed out to resemble the original woodwork throughout the house.

An eat-in counter space at the kitchen seats five. Two fireplaces provide heat for both floors of the addition.

The exterior was covered in rigid asbestos shingle siding. We were able to match the reveal with Hardi-plank cementious siding. This solution offers maximum durability, the ability to blend with the existing, the option for the homeowners to replace the rest of the siding in the future, and it is not depleting a natural resource.

The principles of Feng Shui played an important role in governing the layout and flow of the entire remodel.
