| This was
our firm’s first addition. The homeowner asked us
to enlarge their tiny second-story bathroom to accommodate
their family of four. The space was to be calming, tranquil,
and comfortable. It needed to accommodate a beauty area
as well as a double vanity. Additionaly, since the build
out would eliminate a door that accessed the second floor
from outside and was the only method of moving beds in and
out, we had to re-create the access.
The solution was to create a historically accurate addition
that replicated the detail of the facia, soffits, and trim.
The large sliding window allows both sashes to be removed
creating the furniture access for the second floor.
The tub is set in an alcove away from the sinks, but the
stepped wall between the two allows natural light to flow
through. The heated floors provide comfort underfoot. Quiet
colors in the tile, granite, and vanity keep a sense of
softness to the space that could otherwise be quite cold. |
